The novel cornavirus outbreak started in december 2019 ,but the financial markets didnt react immediately due to the lack of information pertaining to various factors like mortality rate contamination rate.But as days passed by and the world became more privy to information regarding coronavirus the markets finally reacted to it ,towards the end of February.US stocks lost nearly 12%, and approximately $3.5 trillion was lost in stocks and the Dow Jones Industrial average dropped 12%.European stocks ended the week down as losses were estimated at 1.5trillion USD.It was the worst crash since October 2008.
Asian stock Markets too bore the brunt as China's Shenzhen stocks clsoed lwer at 4.8%.The Shnaghai composite was down 3.71%.Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 2.42% and Nikkei 225 the market index for Tokyo Stock exchange dropped 3.67%.In India the BSE Sensex fell 1,836 points to 32,666 while NSE benchmark Nifty fell 494 points to 4960.
Actions taken by central banks and regulators to calm the investors was of no avail as the markets further went into losses after an initial recovery on March 2nd.
