1.Carry out library search to find out if the bacteria and yeast form alcohol in the absence of oxygen or they possess a metabolic pathway that does not involve oxygen. Write down your findings

2. What would happen if the first enzyme in glycolysis is irreversible inhibited by a toxic substance?

Answer-

Yeast and bacteria produce alcohol and lactic acid respectively by fermentation or anaerobic process in the absence of oxygen . In the presecnce of oxygen and sugar yeast and bacteria undergoes aerobic cellular respiration involving glycolysis and TCA cycle .

Bacteria but are 3 types obligate aerobes , facultative anaerobs and obligate anaerobes . Obligate aerobs do not have anaerobic respiration in absence of oxygen and so perish , facultative anaerobs can survive by anaerobic in absence of oxygen meanwhile in presence of oxygen by aerobic respiration. Obligate aerobes only metabolise in anaerobic conditions that is by fermentation.

2. The first enzyme in glycolysis is hexokinase and it is irreversible , if it is inhibited by a toxic substance ,glycolysis will not occur and accumulation of the reaction product glucose will occur in cells which will diffuse out of the cells and will not act as a substrate for aerobic respiration.

If this helps please give it a positive rating thank you !

Bacteria can carry out gluconeogenesis using components of the citric acid cycle or amino acids, but unlike mammals, they can generate glucose from acetate via the glyoxylate pathway. Because bacteria have no organelles, the enzymes of the citric acid cycle and the glyoxylate pathway are not compartmentalized. (a) Why is regulation of the glyoxylate pathway necessary in bacteria? (b) Studies show that bacterial isocitrate lyase is allosterically inhibited by high concentrations of phosphoenolpyruvate. Would you expect to see the inhibition...
