Dextromethorphan is an active ingredient and commonly found in cough syrups. Today's generation has become more addicted to the drug abuse. Taking the huge amount of cough syrup to get high. These cough syrups are easily available to every customer because its cheap, legal and can be misused. Generally, dextromethorphan in a normal form of dose effects the brain part to control the coughing, but at a very hingh dose i.e. 10 to 50 times it causes hallucinations as well as visual impairment.

Reasons of the drug abuse of dextromethorphan:

1) Ease of availability: One can easily get this ingredient in form of cough syrup, tablets etc., but cough syrup is most commonly used.

2) Cheap: As a comparison to any other ingredient for addiction, dextromethorphan is cheap, the cough syrup can easily be purchased within the budget.

3) Parents don't pay more attention: If a child is having cough suppressant, parents didn't pay more attention to them because its a cough syrup and considered to be safer.

These drug abuse can be controlled with the help of the attention given to the child, because nowadays drug abuse is more common in young children. As soon as slight behavioural changes occur in the child, parents should become more careful towards their child and keep a check on them. This may lead early ban on the side effects and to stop drug abuse.
