antibodies are produced by _____ and bind to a specific _____ on erythrocytes, causing _____, or clumping of erythrocytes.
antibodies are produced by B lymphocytes and bind to a specific antigens on erythrocytes, causing agglutination, or clumping of erythrocytes.
Antibodies are produced by specialized white blood cells called B lymphocytes (or B cells) which binds with specific antigens present on erythrocytes causing agglutination or clumping of erythrocytes.
Agglutination or clumping is the process that occurs if an antigen is mixed with its corresponding antibody. When people are given blood transfusions of the wrong blood group, the antibodies react with the incorrectly transfused blood group and as a result, the erythrocytes clump up and stick together causing them to agglutinate.
