- Desktops
- All-in-ones
- Laptops
- Tablets
What are some pros and cons of each form?
Desktops
Pros of Desktop PCs
- Most of the IT hardware parts are upgradable.
- Cheaper option compared to laptops.
- Easier to repair, since many IT hardware components like CPU,
RAM, Audio, Graphics cards etc are separate parts and can be
detached for repair.
- Desktop computers often have more life than laptop
computers
- A large number of hardware components, allowing one to
customize or upgrade his computer as he wishes
- When it comes to gaming, Desktop PCs are the 1st option since
they offer higher power, higher expandability to allow running of
rich-graphic games.
Cons of Desktop PCs
- Heavy to carry and move to another place.
- Consumes plenty space on your desk.
- So many cables running into the PC i.e power, video, audio,
etc.
- Must be plugged into power outlet all the time to use.
- High power Desktop PCs produce noise
- Needs a separate monitor, keyboard and mouse
Laptops
Pros of Laptops
- Highly portable
- Gets more work done
- Instant use
- Up-to-date information
- Lower power consumption
Cons of Laptops
- Laptops generally have smaller screens and keyboards than
desktop.
- Laptops generally have smaller capacities than desktops of the
same relative cost. This fluctuates based on available funding for
the annual upgrade process.
- Repairs are more difficult and will require at least 48 hours
turnaround time if the machine must be sent to a repair center
- Laptops are harder, or in some cases impossible, to upgrade
(memory, etc)
- Laptops are inherently more vulnerable to damage and theft
- Laptops may require more technical skill to operate than
desktops
All-in-ones
Pros of All-in-ones
- An all-in-one PC is lightweight and simple.
- It comes with a touchscreen.
- They take less room.
- They look really cool and stylish.
Cons of All-in-ones
- Upgrades are limited to memory and hard drive. You generally
cannot upgrade the motherboard, processor, etc.
- Heats up quickly. It's designed for people running daily tasks,
not high end games or server applications.
- If something breaks, you can't just use a temporary solution
while that part is fixed (borrowing someone's monitor, etc). The
whole PC has to be replaced by a new one.
Tablets
Pros of Tablets
- 1. They're so light and portable.
- 2. You can get connectivity anywhere.
- 3. A tablet is more affordable than a laptop.
- 4. Tablets 'wake up' instantly.
- 5. They make excellent portable entertainment systems.
- 6. They're great for web browsing.
- 7. They're handy for giving presentations.
Cons of Tablets
- 1. No keyboard and mouse.
- 2. Low processor speeds for work.
- 3. Less portable than a mobile phone.
- 4. Tablets tend to lack ports.
- 5. They can be fragile.
- 6. They can cause ergonomic discomfort.

Advantages of all-in-one
Compared to a standalone tablet, a all-in-one has these
advantages:
- Computing power: With full PC operating systems and faster
processors, most all-in-ones can handle more advanced computing
tasks than tablets. So a all-in-one has more all-around flexibility
to offset its heavier weight.
- Ports and docking: all-in-ones are more easily expandable than
tablets, with many models offering multiple ports and slots for
attaching disk drives, monitors, etc. all-in-ones may be more
durable, too (see "Durability" at right).
- Office use: Business users of al-in-ones may first focus on
their value as keyboard-equipped laptop replacements, but soon find
the tablet option ideal for note-taking, touch screen data entry,
presentations, and so on.
- Multitasking: The more traditional PC capabilities of a
all-in-one allow you to keep multiple applications and program
windows open at the same time and switch between them more easily
than with a tablet.

Advantages of a Tablet
Compared to a all-in-one, a standalone tablet has these
advantages:
- Weight: Stand-alone tablets will typically be lighter than
all-in-ones, so they're a good choice for long periods of steady
use in tablet form. But be sure to look at the specifications. Some
very thin and light all-in-ones are available today.
- Durability: This is a double-edged sword. A stand-alone tablet
has fewer moving/external parts than a all-in-one (360° hinges,
keyboards, etc.), but the touch screen in a all-in-one typically
sits within a sturdier laptop-style frame.
- Field use: Road warriors who initially choose a tablet for its
easy portability are often happy to learn how many full
office-style applications (spreadsheets, etc.) they can run,
especially if equipped with a stylus for data entry.
- Battery life: Unless the competing all-in-one has multiple
batteries, a standalone tablet will generally last longer
unplugged, as it is only powering the tablet and touch screen
rather than an entire PC.
