If you assume it takes ONE DAY for each of these viruses to infect the new people, then how many people will be infected by each of these viruses after 17 days?
Solution:
RO or reproduction number is a mathematical term that tells us average number of people who will contract the disease.
For virus A , the RO is 2. This means that one person who has disease will transmit this to 2 other people.
If the virus takes one day to infect new people then that means each day 2 people will get infected and after 17 days the total cases would be 65,536.
Virus B has an RO of 11. This means that one infected person will transmit this to 11 new people.
If virus takes one day to infect new people then each day 11 people will get infected and after 17 days the total cases would be 4594972986357216 cases
Virus C has an RO of 5. This means that one infected person can transmit this to 5 new people.
If virus takes one day to infect new people then each day 5 people will get infected and after 17 days the total cases would be 762939453125 cases.
Note:
exponential model formula used :
Y= xt-1
Y= total number of people infected.
x = reproduction number
t= number of days.
