7. What does the basic reproduction number (R0) of a virus tell us?
A) How long the 'incubation period' will be B) How many people
will die C) How many contacts will be infected from one case D) How
virulent the infection will be
_____8. You examine the health statistics from the past five years
for X country. The data reveals an average of 3,500 confirmed cases
of Influenza B in the month of January for each of those years.
This year, approximately 9,000 cases of Influenza B have been
confirmed across the country for the month of January. This is
considered an epidemic because:
A) Less than 10% of the country's population is being affected. B) There is an increase in the number of cases in a given area.
C) At least twice as many people as usual have been affected. D)
More people are being affected than normal at a certain time and
place.
_____9. Forty-three cases of norovirus infection over 2 days traced
to the ice machine on a cruise ship (incubation period for
norovirus is usually 24–48 hours). This is an example of
A) Point Source Epidemic B) Common Source Epidemic C) Host To
Host Epidemic D) Group On Epidemic
_____10. A Contagious Disease Is
A) Communicable B) Somewhat Communicable
C) Highly Communicable D) Avirulent
7. C, How many contacts will be infected from one case.Basic reproduction number is also known as basic reproduction ratio(R0) it can be defined as number of possible infected cases that can be occured from one individual is affected with a disease. If a disease is there in a society it should spread to one person minimum for an epidemic disease.Generally in the case of epidemic diseaeses the R0 will increase exponentially to a point and it reaches a peak then it will slows down.
Option A. Incubation period is the time required to appear symptoms of a diseaes.
Option B.How many people will die can give fatality rate of a disease,it gives from total died individuals per total infected individuals.
Option D. Virulence is the ability to infect a disease.
8.D.More people being affected than normal at a certain time and place. Disease affected persons are above expected level
an epidemic means oubreak of a disease which means it can spread to a large number of people within a short period of time,it will be out of control. In this case it would be out of controll, because of that it was called as an epidemic and it also be out of expected number.
9.A. Point source epidemic, which means a disease is affected with same group of people they exposed to the same source over a period of time and most of their symptoms will appear within the incubation time.
common source epidemic. Group of people all are exposed to a common source.
10.A,Communicable, Contagious disease means communicable that can spread from one individual to other ,it may also be highly communicable.
