INTERVIEW TECHNIQUE: FACE TO FACE
ALSO HIGHLIGHT FINDINGS AND RECOMMMENDATIONS
What did you do well?
Arriving at the test set: We were able to come up with the correct audience for the test. By eliminating the students based on their addresses proper audience for the test was determined. This eliminates any possibility of nullifying evidence due to improper test subjects.
Establishing rapport: It was important to get
to know the subjects so that they trusted us enough to open
up.
What did you find
easy?
Breaking the ice: It was easy to interact with the subjects due to the age factor.
What can you improve on?
Better questions: Need better, more questions based on the depth of the issues at hand. Depending upon whether the causes are cultural or demographic, need better questions to address the subject in order to understand depression better.
Better assessment measures: Since it was Face-to-Face, it was a little difficult to gauge reactions. Need more understanding of body language and how to evoke better responses.
The general finding was that cultural stress was relatively a higher cause for depression than other indicators. The more distant their home culture is, the more difficult their ability to adapt to the new surrounding.
It is recommended to introduce programs that address how the new students can adapt to the new surrounding by providing training appropriate to the home culture they belong to.
