After the Seattle 1999 World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference fiasco, in the next 2 years, large anti-globalization demonstrations rocked the International Monetary Fund and Work Bank in Washington. What was the anti-globalization movement goal- and was it right? Explain you answer and where appropriate use figures.
The battle of Seattle happened in the year 1999, is considered as the initial start to the anti globalization movements. The movement criticized the WTO as promoting a "race to the bottom" In terms of environmental, human rights and labor Standards. This issues brought together many activists, environmental and labour unions together. The target of the protest was international institutions that promoted free trade. The slogan of the anti globalization movements were "think globally and act locally". In 2001, there were many protests in the G8 summit under the slogan " Another world is possible". There protest focused on the environmental destruction and widening disparity between the rich and poor. In 2001 the WTO conference in Doha, faced the accusation that the WTO was insulting against popular movements. Later in 2010, G20 summit in Toronto experienced the same problems. In 2015 G7 meeting in Schloss elman in Bavaria addressed different environmental concerns like threat to oceans and the G7 countries decided to work in the sea waste disposals. The anti globalization movements aimed at reducing the environmental impact that globalization causes. If executed in the right way the movement would have showed some results.
