Which of the following is a mechanism of the Adaptive Body Defenses?
a.) Physical barrier mechanisms
b.) Cell-Mediated Response
c.) Inflammation
d.) a and c
Answer: cell mediated response
We have two kinds of defense mechanism and this body defense mechanism is called as immunity. The two types of immunity are : innate immunity and adaptive immunity. Innate immunity acts against nonspecific pathogens and are present in our body from our birth. The first line of innate immunity is the physical barrier like skin which don't allow the pathogens to enter our body. The second line of defence is the inflammation caused by mast cells.
But the immunity developed in our body in course of time or by getting exposure to a pathogen is known as adaptive immunity. It is specific against the types of pathogen. Lymphocytes plays an important role in adaptive immunity. When B - lymphocytes are associated with the adaptive immunity, it is called as humoral immunity, but when the T - lymphocytes (mainly cytotoxic T cells to kill the pathogens by production of cytokines) are associated with the immune mechanism, it is called as cell mediated immunity.
