Ted Chiangs “The Truth of Fact, the Truth of Fiction” is a science fiction, which has been framed a as a story where the opinion of a journalist has been put forward. Here, there is a narrator, who has not been named, who describes his journey about his research and where he would later try his technology. The narrator would be approaching his technology, initially, with the interest of understanding it, followed by trying to work with the human memory. He tries the the technology on himself and realises that it prevents people from lying to oneself and this would be leading to a future that would be very different. He is not sure if the future would be better or if it would be worse. There is a parallel story in the background, where a young man is In The west Africa and is curious to learn writing from one of the European missionaries. The narrator is trying to make a point where he is trying to emphasise the benefits as well as dangers of these. Also, the writer writes about how sense of self is affected by technology. The narrator is doubtful that if there would be video memories, there would not be emotions involved in them and selective memory, as possessed by the humans, will be diminished. He concludes that his personal acceptance or rejection is not as Important as this is just a thought.
