Explain how smoking alters the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory tract and leads to emphysema.
Emphysema is the disease which is related to the lungs due to which there is the abnormality occurs in the human body which causes the shortness in the breath.
As one of the cause that leads to the development of the emphysema in the human body is the smoking. As the habit of the smoking is very much responsible for the destruction of the tissues of the lungs which may on the other hand result in the obstruction of the ir flow.
As the destruction due to the smoking can directly affect and attack the cell which are present in the air pathways.
The air pathways are that which helps to clear the mucus and secretion. but due to the smoking these function of the air pathways may get disrupted.
So anatomically the smoking may destroy or disrupt the hir like structure known as the cilia which are present in the lining of the air pathways.
And as the smoking get continued over the long period of time these hair like structure cilia will slowly slowly get disappears and due to which the clearing of the mucus and the other secretion may not happen.
So due to which the amount of the mucus in the body gets increase which causes the formation of the bacteria and also the other problems.
This leads to the emphysema.
