NOTE : ESSAY QUESTION - PLEASE ANSWER IN DETAIL (1-2 paragraphs)
Question : Discuss the characteristics, inheritance, and development of cancer; specifically talk about the role of genes, gene regulation, and the environment in the development of cancer. In addition, make sure to talk about why it is so difficult to treat/cure cancer.
The cancer cells are known for their rapid growth and abnormal division, and are poorly differentiated and have membranes , cytoskeletal proteins and morphology. The abnormality in cells can be progressive with a slow transformation from normal cells to benign tumors and then to the malignant tumors.
Some people are born with a gene mutation that they got inherited from their parents. This damaged gene makes them more vulnerable to the cancer. When this type of cancer occurs it is named as hereditary cancer , as the damaged gene is inherited from their parents.
The development of cancer occurs due to the mutations in the genes that makes the cell division rapid and inhibit normal growth and controls on the cells. As the mass of cancerous cells grow , they can lead to the formation of a tumor.
Treating cancer is further complicated due to the lifestyle and attitude of patients. The different kind of physiology of people and the way their body will react to the drugs and metabolise them. Moreover the blood supply to the tumor which will affect the drug getting into the tumor , the physiology of the tumor and even the tumors can change further.
If the tumors get converted into malignant tumors, it again becomes difficult to treat as they get detached from the tumor cells and flow to other body parts with the help of blood. Hence , they develop into cancer cells where they get attached.
