CitiBank recorded the number of customers to use a downtown ATM during the noon hour on 32 consecutive workdays. I have tried to find the 1st and 3rd quartiles and got 12.5 for the first and 31.5 for the 3rd but my homework thing keeps saying that is wrong, I dont know what to do.
20 | 36 | 22 | 28 | 5 | 11 | 29 | 32 |
11 | 16 | 15 | 10 | 31 | 38 | 36 | 26 |
32 | 23 | 19 | 7 | 7 | 10 | 32 | 14 |
28 | 10 | 26 | 29 | 18 | 35 | 33 | 15 |
rearranging the data into ascending order,
5,7,7,10,10,10,11,11,14,15,15,16,18,19,20,22,23,26,28,28,29,29,31,32,32,32,33,35,36,36,38
The first quartile is the median of the bottom half of the numbers.
So, the bottom half is
5 7 7 10 10 10 11 11 14 15 15 16 18 19 20 22
The median of these numbers is (8th term+ 9th term)/2 = (11+14)/2 = 12.5.
The third quartile is the median of the upper half of the numbers.
So, the upper half is
23 26 26 28 28 29 29 31 32 32 32 33 35 36 36 38
The median of these numbers is (8th term +9th term)/2=(31+32)/2 = 31.5
