Genetics research is the scientific study which is realted with the study of the role of genes in traits. This study has an important role in identifying potential targets for therapeutic intervention and also in understanding genetically based variations in response to therapeutic interventions.

The advancement made in the recent days in the field of genetics have a greater impact in the clinic, and many perceptions in the field of genetics are changing day by day due to this advancement made in the field. In past genetic tests rarely used to provide us rapid results, but now the increasing speed of genetic testing is changing this, which alternately means that the genetic information is increasing its influence in decission making around patient care. Furthermore the point of access to testing is changing with the increasing provision direct to the consumer outside the formal healthcare. the past two decades have seen the major shifts in our technical ability to sequence genetic information. Most recently the advancement in sequencing technology have made it possible to undertake broad genetic testing .

Certain examples of recent development in genetics are the preimplantation genetic testing(PGT) , which offers couples who carry genetic disorders and even plan for having a child with very minimum risk .

Another example is of flow-cytometric sperm separation that offers an effective way to prevention of x-linked genetic disorders.
