Insulin decreases blood sugar while glucagon increases blood sugar.
True or False
The answer to this question is-
True.
It is true that Insulin decreases blood sugar level while glucagon increases blood sugar level.
Explanation.
Glucagon is secreted by alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans of Pancreas. Major function of glucagon is to increase blood sugal level whenever there is fall in blood glucose level.Glucagon is stimulates liver to convert glycogen into glucose. It is secreted by feedback mechanism. Excess of glucose in blood cause supression of secretion of glucagon.
Insulin is secreted by beta cells of islets of langerhans of pancreas. It is secreted whenever there is rise in blood glucose level. It stimulated liver to store glucose as glycogen and enables cells to take up insulin into cells. This lowers the blood glucose level. It also works by feedback mechanism. When blood sugar level drops, its secretion is suppressed.
