A monochromatic, unpolarized beam of laser light is incident on a polarizer that is aligned along the vertical direction. The light has a wavelength of 355 nm. Explain in a complete sentence what fraction of the incident light passes through the polarizer? If the light coming out of this polarizer passes through a second polarizer that is rotated at an angle of 45o with respect to the first polarizer, what fraction of the original laser light will come out of the 2nd polarizer?
