Peer group
Peer group is a social group; it is a primary group of people who have similar interest, age, background. Member of the group influence each other with their ideas and beliefs.
Cliques: Small groups that are defined by friendship, tend to be formed by age, gender, social class or race. Being a part of a clique provides a sense of anatomy, a secure social environment and overall well being.
Cling: They are larger group that do not have friendship base. They serve as importance to adolescence and later decreases when they grow older.
According to the development psychologist, peer relations helps in cognitive, social and emotional development of an individual.
Despite their similarities, boy and girl groups have found the differences in the following ways: the size of the group, degree of connectedness, competition, aggression, conflicts use of language varies.
Boys peer group tend to be larger than girls. Girls prefer group of two or trio. Peer group seem to be important for boys in the childhood. And there peer groups are inter connected that is most of the boys are likely to be connected to the boy of the same group. Whereas the girls are likely to have other friends who are not part of the same group. Girls are less interested in having extensive peer relationship and reports less enjoyment from peer relationship.
If one pays attention to the games that boys and girls play; boys are likely to play outdoor games in larger group, which is more competitive. Girls also play boys game but not with much aggression.
