A single stage steam turbine is supplied with steam at 5 bars, 200 C at the rate of 50kgmin. It exhausts into a condenser at a pressure of 0.2 bars. The blade speed is 400msec. Nozzles are inclined at an angle of 20 to the plane of the wheel and outlet blade angle 30. Neglecting friction losses, the power developed by the turbine will be?
Answer:
Given Data,
Pressure of Steam, P = 5 bar
Temperature of Steam, T = 200oC
Steam Flow Rate = 50 Kg/Min
Condebser Pressure, Pc = 0.2 bar
Blade Speed, N = 400 m/sec
Nozzle Inclination = 20o
Blade Inclination = 30o
Negelecting Friction
Solution:
From Steam tables,
At 5 bar & 200oC,
Enthalpy, H = 2855 kJ/kg
Entropy, S = 7.06 kJ/kgK
At 0.2 bar,
Hf = 952 kJ/kg
Hfg = 2358 kJ/kg
sf = 0.8321
sfg = 7.0773
Power developed by Turbine = H - Hc = 2855 - 2327 = 528 kJ/kg
