Benzoic acid is produced commercially by
partial oxidation of toluene with oxygen. The process is catalyzed
by cobalt or manganese naphthenates. The process uses abundant
materials and proceeds in high yield.
Calculate the apparent solubility of benzoic acid at pH 5.
Benzoic acid is a weak acid, with pKa = 4.2 and
solubility of nonionized species S0 = 0.028
mol/L.
Please show steps
Assume you dissolve 0.281 g of the weak acid benzoic
acid in enough water to make 1.00x10^2 mL of solution and then
titrate the solution with 0.171 M NaOH. Ka=6.3x10^-5.
what are the concentrations of Na+ H3O+ OH- and
C6H5CO2-
Assume you dissolve 0.216 g of the weak acid benzoic acid in
enough water to make 100 mL of solution and then titrate the
solution with 0.144 M . ( Ka for benzoic acid = 6.3 times 10^-5.)
a) What was the pH of the original benzoic acid solution? b) What
are the concentrations of all of the following ions at the
equivalence point: Na, H3O, OH, and C6H5CO2? c) What is the pH of
the solution at the equivalence...

A benzoic acid solution (C6H5CO2H) has a pH of 2.80. Given that
Ka of benzoic acid is 6.4x10–5, calculate the concentration and
percent dissociation of this acid. Answer is 4.1%
Suppose a 0.050 M benzoic acid, HC7H5O2 solution is prepared.
The Ka for benzoic acid is 6.3×10 −5. Calculate the pH of the
benzoic acid solution.
pH = ?
How do i determine the distribution coefficent of benzoic acid?
I used 0.050 grams of benzoic acid and performed extractions 3
times using 2.0 ml of methylene cloride and 2.0 mL of water and got
around 0.035 grams after all the extractions done.
also is there a correlation between the values of the
distribution coefficent and the polarity of the compound?
thank you
Make a flow chart for the synthesis of Benzoic Acid from phenyl
magnesium bromide and carbon dioxide. Using your knowledge of the
physical properties of the solvents, reactants, and products, show
how the products can be purified. Indicate which layer should
contain the product in the liquid/liquid extraction steps.
You need to make a benzoic acid-based buffer that has a ph of
5.10. The volume should be 500ml. What masses of the acid and its
conjugate base should you use? (Hint: you should not go over 1M in
concentration for either acid or conjugate base) Show all Work.
Part B. The pH of the above buffer solution should not go above
5.15. If 10ml of 0.1 M NaOH is added to the buffer, will the pH go
past the...
