Expert Solution

Assuming that a MOD16 counter with 4 flipflops and which counts up to 16 bits is used.

  • The initial state is given as 0 0 0 0.
  • The counter resets after 16 counts, ie., it comes back to the initial state (0 0 0 0) after 16 clock pulses.
  • The closest multiple of 16 near 2251 is 2240 (140th multiple). This means that after 2240 pulses, the counter will be back to its initial state (0 0 0 0).
  • The counter will increment by one for every clock pulse it receives. That will mean,
    • After 2241 pulses, the counter will read 0 0 0 1.
    • After 2242 pulses, the counter will read 0 0 1 0.
    • After 2243 pulses, the counter will read 0 0 1 1 and so on for the next 8 pulses till pulse the pulse 2251.
    • After 2251 pulses, the counter will read 1 0 1 1.

Therefore, after 2251 pulses, the counter will read 1 0 1 1.
