Identify examples of appropriate characteristics of culture media
Answer= The culture medium is a solid, liquid or semisolid designed to support the growth of microorganisms or cells
different types of growth media are used:
most common growth media for microorganisms are nutrient broths and agar plates.
Culture media contains all the elements that most bacterial species can grows.
Culture may be solid or liquid
The solid media is composed of a brown jelly like substances known as agar..Different nutrients and chemicals are added to it to allow the growth of different microbes.
1.Enrichment culture media- This is a liquid medium which allows the microbes to multiply & has the essential nutrients that are required for it.
Is usually composed of bacteria taken from a liquid source such as pond water.
example-Nutrient broth.
2.Selective culture media= This is special type of media which allows the growth of certain microorganisms while inhibits the growth of the others.
examples- Mac conkey agar medium.
3.Differential culture media- Is used for differentiating between bacteria by using an identification marker for a specific type of microorganisms.
example- Blood agar
