What is the designation of the recipient cell after mating with an Hfr donor strain?
1. F-
2. F'
3. F+
D. Hfr
The transfer of the genetic material in the bacteria is possible by the help of conjugation. In conjugation a part of desired gene is transferred from donor bacteria to the receptient bacteria. It is a cell to cell contact between two bacterias which occurs through the donation of pilli( singular pillus). Let us take an example of conjugation in E-coli. There is an strain Hfr stain means desired gene (high frequency recombinant) is transferred or F- through the plasmid. Those cell which don't have plasmid will be called F-(recipient) and which have called F+.
Since not all the DNA is tranferred from HFr to F- the F- will remain remain as F-.
Hence the answer to this question is option 1 F-.
