Solutions

Expert Solution

Steroid hormones;

Use a signal transduction system to deliver their ‘message’ to the nucleus of the target cell.

Explanation- Steroid hormones like androgens, estrogens, glucocorticoids, mineralocorticoids, and progestins, bind with high affinity to their respective steroid hormone receptors (SR) which is present in the cytosol. In cytosol, it remains in inactive form after making complex with heat shock protein (HSP). Ligand binding with the receptor in the cytosol results in the dissociation of HSPs and translocation from the cytosol into the cell nucleus, where they bind to specific DNA sequences, hormone response elements.

Delivery their ‘message’ to a receptor in the outer cell membrane of the target cell.

Explanation- Some steroid receptors are associated with the plasma membrane. Steroid hormone binding to this plasma membrane steroid receptors activates G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) and intracellular signaling pathways ultimately regulating gene transcription and other downstream events.

Which statement accurately describes what occurs in photosystem II? Group of answer choices Light energy excites electrons in the electron transport chain in a photosynthetic unit. The photons are passed along to a molecule of P700 chlorophyll in the photosynthetic unit. The P680 chlorophyll donates a pair of protons to NADPH, which is thus converted to NADP+. The electron vacancies in P680 are filled by electrons derived from the splitting of water. The splitting of water yields molecular carbon dioxide...
