In: Statistics and Probability
Using survey data to calculate statistics can be extremely valuable, but you must also make sure that the sample and questions are unbiased. Design a pair of questions that are related to the same healthcare issue: one that is unbiased and another that would result in a bias in one direction or the other.
Examples:
Discuss why it is important to create a truly unbiased sample and survey questions.
Do not state which of your own questions is biased and which is unbiased. Your peers will determine which is which in their responses to you.
Pair of biased and unbiased relatd questions for same scenario are given below for different health care issues,
(1) (a) WhichCataract Surgery is more effective among eye patients
(1) Using Phacoemulsification method for lens
(2) Using Femtosecond method for lens
(b) Which Cataract Surgey is more effective among eye patients
(1) Using Traditional Manual Incision for lens
(2) Using Laser Assisted lens incision
(2) (a) Expectant mothers during their monthly health checkup were asked "Drinking during pregnancy has shown increased birth-defects, Do you agree that doctors should advise mothers to refrain from drinking during their preganancy period?"
(b) Expectant mothers during their monthly health checkup were asked "Do you agree that doctors should advise mother to refrain from drinking during their pregancy period?"
(3) (a) We all know that Smoking is injurious to health. What is expected life of a person if he or she smoke a packet of ciagarettes every day?
(b) What is the average life expected in a person if he or she smoke a packet of cigarettes every day ?
Truly unbiased samples is required in survey questions for bringing more representative samples in analysis as heavily woeded or more technically twisted and confused questions will bring unfavorable results due to more sampling errors and large variability in the output of results.
