Expert Solution

There has been a notable achievement of the millennium development goals as propounded by the United Nations. Many reports state that the number of people under extreme poor conditions has considerably decreased and has now reduced to fewer than one billion all over the world.

Some achievements include:

  • In the year 1990, an approximate of 50% of people living in the developing countries lived on a wage less than $1.5 per day. Uptill 2015, this proportion has dropped to 14%.
  • The number of people living in acute poverty has reduced by more than 50 percent worldwide. It has reduced from 1.9 billion people in 1990 to 836 million in 2015. Most of this progress was seen in the new millennium.
  • The number of living on more than $4 a day i.e the working middle class , has nearly increased threefold between 1991 and 2015. From only 18 percent of the population in 1990, it rose to 50 percent in 2015.
  • The percentage of undernourished people in the developing nations has dropped by almost 50 percent since 1990.
