A nursing student is considering working for a pediatric endocrinologist after graduation and is concerned about her ability to gain sufficient knowledge to respond to questions from patients and their parents about various metabolic disorders. What could the student do to acquire more knowledge in this field, and what will the student discover in terms of the role of the endocrine system?
The student can join as go through various endocrinology related articles and books . The student should have a through understanding on the mechanisms of the hormones and their influence on the body metabolism .
The student can work as a volunteer in schools for special children with metabolic disorders so that they get accquanted to their life style and the problems during the process of development .
The student will understand that endocrine system plays a major role in the metabolism of the body , like growth , development of gonads , secondary sexual characters and normal mental development .
The student will also get insights into the normal levels , hyposecretion (undersecretion ) and hypersecretion of certain hormones like growth hormones and their affects on infants they will also understand the disorders like gigantism , dwarfism , cretinism etc . which are specially in children .
They will also understand that proper secretion of the hormones is essential for the normal development of the system.
