Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution

Answer: c. decrease in bone density

Though weight-bearing capacity and resistance contribute to maintanance of the bone mass, immobility can result in bone loss owing to the formation of osteoclast. But bone mass loss typically occurs over several months of inactivity or bed rest. Hence it is very much unexpected that 2 weeks of bedrest could results in loss of bone density.

Atelectasis is the condition in which the lung tissue collapsed owing to blockage of the bronchioles or by pressure on the lung. This occurs during bed rest with few changes in position. Hence there is a chance to develop atelectasis on 2 weeks of bed rest.

Skin breakdown develops when blood supply to the skin is obstructed for more than 2 to 3 hours. Hence skin breakdown is predictable in case of 2 weeks of bed rest.

loss of short term memory

Bedrest is associated with numerous mental health condition including depression, anxiety, apathy and confusion and memory loss. Hence, 2 weeks of bed rest could results in loss of short term memory.
