You have just been hired (for 2 weeks) in a specialized firm in your respective field and you are paid a salary that you cannot have elsewhere in the region (you do not want to lose this job). It's a Saturday morning and very few employees are on site. Your new colleague is asking for your help. When he arrives at the garage, he wants help getting into his personal car, a piece of equipment that you know he doesn't need at home. What are you doing? And why?
Don't tell me he's stealing this equipment, you don't know

Expert Solution

As its a saturday morning, one can assume the organisational climate to have some informal feel to it. This can be assessed with the fact that there are only a few employees on the sight and it being a weekend.

Now, being a new joinee, one usually tries to create a positive image around the others so that he/she gets accepted in the organisation by fellow employees.

So, in a situation like this, one can, in an informal manner ask about what the equipment is and how the other person will use it. One can, through subtle informal communication tell the other person that there maybe something else available that might be of better use.

one should always try to provide a solution along with the problem identified. Simply highlighting a problem, in this case questioning the loading of an unproductive product that might not be of use simply won't be of help. We must offer our help to earn trust of the other person and them can suggest him in a friendly tone an alternative.
