A floor plan is a type of drawing that shows you the layout of a building or any structure from the top. Floor plans show the location of walls, doors, windows, and stairs, as well as fixed installations such as bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinetry, and appliances. Floor plans are usually drawn to scale and will illustrate room types, room sizes, and wall lengths.
2-Dimensional (2D) Floor Plan
A 2D floor plan is a type of drawing that shows the layout of space from above including the walls and rooms. 2D means that the floor plan is a “flat” drawing, without depth or height of any features of the structure. A 2-dimensional floor plan can be a sketch, a blueprint or computer drawing.
3-Dimensional (3D) Floor Plan
A 3D floor plan is a type of diagram that shows the layout of any building or property in 3D from the top. Unlike a 2D Floor Plan, a 3D Floor Plan includes a clear view which makes it easier for you to understand the size and layout of a space. They include details such as windows, doors, flooring, and fixed installations such as bathroom and kitchen fixtures. This plan also shows furniture to indicate the scale of a room and how it can be furnished further. 3D Floor Plans are useful for real estate businesses, home staging, and home designing projects. There is much-advanced software available for drawing 3-D drawing such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp, etc.

A drafter will most likely work on a 2-D Floor plan because it is easy to draw and can be drawn very accurately.2-D floor plan once made in software can be easily converted into a 3-D floor plan if all the specification of the building or home is available.
