Discussion: Network Standards

Networks today span the globe. Hardware and software manufactured by different companies in different countries need to be interchangeable and able to work together. A network interface card needs to be able to interface with any network anywhere in the world. This consistency is established through standards.

Important international standards-making bodies for networks include: International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). There are also many regional and national standards organizations.

For this Discussion, choose an organization responsible for creating international standards. Conduct an Internet search to locate the organization’s standards specifications. Identify a specific standard from the organization that is relevant to networks.

Post a brief description of the network standards organization you have selected. In particular, focus on how it successfully garners international cooperation with its standards. Then, in a separate paragraph, explain your chosen standard. Explain the advantages and limitations of this standard. Include the organization abbreviation and standard addressed in the title of your post.

Note: Multiple posts regarding the same organization are encouraged; however, please highlight a different standard than those highlighted in previous posts by your colleagues. You should review these in the Discussion before posting.

Element 1a: Initial Post—Network Standards Organization

Student provides a thorough and detailed description of the network standards organization of their choice, with a focus on how it successfully garners international cooperation with its standards. Several examples and resources support thinking.

Element 1b: Initial Post—Specific Standard

Student provides a thorough and detailed explanation of their chosen standard, including advantages and limitations of that standard, with the organization abbreviation and standard in the title of their post. Several examples and resources support thinking.

Solution:

I have choosen World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Now let us have the important points of above Network Standards Organization:

1. W3C Mission and its Principles:

W3C's mission is to lead the World Wide Web to the best of its ability by building agreements and guidelines that ensure the long-term growth of the Web. Below we discuss the key features of these devices, all of which further the W3C's single Web concept.

Open Standards
On 29 August 2012 the five leading world organizations jointly signed a ratification agreement and adhered to a set of Principles to support The Modern Paradigm for Standards; an open and empowering model that will go a long way in improving the way people around the world develop new technologies and establish personalities. Learn more about OpenStand: a modern paradigm of standards.

2. Facts about W3C Mission and its Organizational Structure:

W3C is led by Tim Berners-Lee, founder of the World Wide Web and Director and Dr. Jeffrey Jaffe, W3C CEO. They are supported by professional technical staff who help coordinate technology development and manage the Consortium's operations.
Organizational structure
W3C does not have a standard organizational structure, nor is it integrated. Learn more about the active W3C organization. There are at least two ways to think about how W3C is organized:
In terms of management: W3C is governed by a collective agreement between the "Hosting Centers": MIT, ERCIM, Keio University, and Behang University. The W3C staff (most of whom work physically in one of these centers) is led by a Director and CEO. The management team is responsible for resource allocation and strategic planning on behalf of staff. The W3C chapters play an important role in the W3C becoming a global organization.

3. Press and Analysts:

W3C stakeholders and the Working Group are among the world’s leading experts in Web technology and their implications. We will help you connect with these experts to answer questions on Web technology, Web standards, and how W3C does its job. The W3C Communications Team welcomes your inquiries and requests.

Get W3C news
Media, Analysts and W3C friends interested in receiving media releases, media advice, social media and other news announcements can subscribe to a variety of lists and feeds:

Homepage news: feed, twitter
Weekly newsletter: subscribe to the newspaper
media releases: subscribe to the media list
Interview Requests
W3C experts enjoy being a resource for media and analysts and are happy to organize interviews or forums where possible, schedules allow for that. Please send all requests to [email protected]. Note that interviews and requests for information are currently being reviewed in the US Eastern Timeline. Due to the nature of the global team distributed by W3C, the application for negotiations and short lead times is a challenge for us to meet.

Note: For [email protected] we measure incoming mail.

4. Sponsorship and Donations:

Donations
Since 1994, W3C has been developing quality Web tools that are used daily by millions of Web developers and Web developers. These tools are free, Open Source and provide the Web with balanced and reliable assistance in creating Web content that works now and will work in the future. Excellent tools to develop, support, host and maintain: with your help, we can make administrators better, faster, more friendly, and maintain a good, free service across the Web.

W3C invites donations from the Web community to help support its management functionality in leading the Web to its full potential. Our strong commitment to those who do Web work feeds a positive circle to increase the involvement of W3C developers and the W3C value in the community. Every day, the W3C Team is doing its best to make the Web a better place and help you build a Web.

Support W3C's work and its free services, become a W3C Friend, and donate.
W3C recognizes that giving takes many forms. We have identified a number of ways in which individuals and organizations can pursue compassion, co-operation, and business objectives, and support the W3C mission. W3C membership is not required to participate in these programs, but W3C members can receive additional benefits when participating.

WORLDWIDE SUPPORTER
To allow the most profitable organizations on the Web, or people who value W3C work, to support our activities.

TECHNOLOGY & INDUSTRY SUPPORTER
Supporting specific technical activities in W3C.

5. Advantages of W3C:

Low cost: The same Web page can be used on all devices e.g. Internet, printers, cell phones, PDAs, projectors, TVs, etc. So pages dedicated to printing are not needed, for example. Since there is only one version that needs to be maintained, maintenance costs are reduced. Makeovers and improvements are made easier to achieve, so it costs less. Cost savings increase rapidly with the increase in website size and traffic volume.
Better position on search engine results: there is a small code on a Web page, which makes it much easier for search engines who are less likely to extract all relevant information from a website.
Lots of sales - from a wide audience, looking at multiple pages. Websites made to Web standards that appear faster in Web browsers (which promote browsing), often look the same across all different browsers, adapt to the use of a growing number of other browsing devices, and exclude low-profile people with disabilities.
Moving forward: performance at Web (current) standards means that websites will be more predictable and predictable for current and future performance, increasingly compliant, Web browsers. Because of the benefits, there is considerable pressure to continue with this practice.
Easy compliance with the law: The situation in the UK directly related to the apparent consequences of the Disability Act on websites is still unclear, although compliance with this law is increasingly accepted. RNIB claim has successfully forced other websites to comply. Web-based websites that can easily meet the needs. To find out more, read accessibility information.

6. Limitations of W3C:

Better performance is needed. Creating websites at Web Levels requires:

strong coding skills
good knowledge of the weaknesses of major browsers, as well as performance
testing on Windows and Mac machines to check human activity.

Thanks. I hope it helps. Please thumbs up as a token for motivation.
