You push a box at a constant speed across a level carpeted floor, doing a total of 100 Joules of work on the box. How much work is done by friction?
For constant speed, there is no acceleration. Friction is the only resistive force here for which you need to push the box. So, you must do work against the frictional force. Work done by you =100J. And consequently frictional force is also doing a work which is -100J.
