In cats, the allele for black coat color is codominant with the allele for yellow coat color, and is located on the X chromosome. If a cat gets alleles for black and yellow coat, it will have a mottled coat that contains both yellow and black coloring known as Tortoise shell. A tortoise shell female mates with a yellow male.

a) What is the genotype of each parent?

b) Draw a Punnett square that shows this cross.

c) What is the chance of having a tortoise shell male offspring from this cross?

d) What is the chance of having a tortoise shell female?

In Triskelian cats, in the Blondish Galaxy, black coat color is dominant over grey. Coat color is determined by a single autosomal gene with two alleles: B = black coat color; b = grey coat color. The autosomal gene for eye color is hypothesized to assort independently from the gene for coat color. The two alleles are: R = green eye color; r = blue eye color. If a green-eyed black female cat whose mother has a grey coat and...

Labrador retriever dogs have three coat colors: black, brown and yellow. The color of the pigment deposited in the hairs is determined by a gene with two alleles (B or b). The B allele codes for black pigment and is dominant to the b allele which codes for brown. Another gene with two alleles (E or e) determines if the pigment created will be deposited into the hairs. If both copies (ee) are recessive, no pigment will be deposited (regardless...

The coat color in mink is controlled by two codominant alleles at a single locus. Red coat color is produced by the genotype R1R1, silver coat by the genotype R1R2, and platinum color by R2R2. White spotting of the coat is a recessive trait found with the genotype ss. Solid coat color is found with the S- genotype. Two crosses are made between mink. Cross 1 is the cross of a solid, silver mink to one that is solid, platinum....

Yellow coat color in guinea pigs is produced by the homozygous genotype, YY, and white is produced by the homozygous genotype, yy. One homozygous yellow guinea pig crosses with a homozygous white guinea pig to produce cream guinea pigs. a. What pattern of inheritance does this follow (complete, incomplete or co-dominance)? How do you know? b. Draw a Punnett square for a cross between two cream guinea pigs. What are the genotypic and phenotypic ratios?

Lake McMurtry Monsters (LMM) have three different coat color phenotypes (black, orange, and white). Their coat color is an example of epistasis. The B gene codes for color type while the W gene codes for the presence or absence of color. ‘B’ is completely dominant to ‘b’ and ‘W’ is completely dominant to ‘w’. For a LMM to be black or orange, they must have the ‘W’ allele. Black is dominant to orange. What are the possible genotypes for the...
