In: Chemistry

which one(s) of the following are strong electrolytes? HNO3, HCN, NH4OH, LiOH

which one(s) of the following are strong electrolytes? HNO3, HCN, NH4OH, LiOH

Solutions

Expert Solution

HNO3 is the strong electrolyte. It completly ionize into H+ and NO3-. pKa = -1.3

HCN is a weak acid: Partially ionize, pKa is 9.2

NH4OH is a weak base : NH4OH ionize into NH4+ and -OH. As NH4 is strong acid NH4OH weak base

LiOH is a weak base : partially ionize in Li+ and -OH
