In: Statistics and Probability
A researcher conducted a study to whether age, gender, obesity,
high blood pressure and regular physical activity is associated
with the risk of recurrent MI (measured as serum cholesterol level)
in post MI patients. A sample of 60 people was obtained from the
community. All subjects had their serum cholesterol level
drawn.
Research question: Do age, gender, obesity, high blood pressure and
regular physical activity predict the serum cholesterol level?
Please indicate which statistical test should be
used.
a. Independent t-test
b. Dependent t-test
c. One-way ANOVA
d. Two-way ANOVA
e. RM-ANOVA
f. Pearson’s Correlation
g. Multiple Linear Regression
Here in this scenario the appropriate Statistical test is,
g) Multiple linear regression.
Explanation :
In multiple linear regression there is one dependent variable and two or more than two independent variables i.e k independent variables. Here the dependent variable is dependents upon k independent variables. Using the multiple linear regression we can predict the y dependent variable based on these k independent variables some times its called as regressor.
In this scenario the researcher conducted a study to whether age, gender, obesity, high blood pressure and regular physical activity is associated with the risk of recurrent MI (measured as serum cholesterol level) in post MI patients.
So here in this study the age, gender, obesity, high blood and regular physical activity are considered as independent variables i.e x (regressor). And Risk of current mi is considered as dependent variable i.e y response Variable.
So using the multiple linear regression analysis we can predict the risk of current mi of patients based on patients age, gender, obesity, high blood and regular physical activity.
This is appropriate test is used for this scenario.
Others tests are not appropriate for this scenario.
Thank you.
