Alzheimer's disease in simple term called as a brain disease leads to issues in memory and behavior. It is reported globally it is the common form of dementia (Memory loss with other cognitive problems) which affects our daily life. The dementia is not a disease but it is a collection of symptoms that accompany with few other diseases. Research studies denoted that in the year 2050 approximately about more than 110 million people with get affected globally. In India, about 1.5 million people already affected with memory loss and this can further increase in coming years.

Alzheimer's disease a chronic disease

Yes, Alzheimer's disease definitely a chronic disease. The term chronic disease means conditions last for more months (atleast more than 3 months). Eg) of chronic diseases/conditions are diseases of any organ especially heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, cancer, arthritis etc. Among which Alzheimer's disease holds the main place with chronic condition. This is because a patient with Alzheimer's disease progress gradually from acute to chronic conditions that damages the nerve cells of brain forming abnormal clumps called as amyloid plaques and twisted fibers (proteins) that ultimately result in complete loss of brain function with dementia. Hence such conditions persist for long time for management of the disease (chronic condition) and also there is no prevention measures such as vaccination or curable drugs. It is also evident that Alzheimer’s disease at all times coexists with other chronic diseases conditions such as coronary artery disease, osteoarthritis and diabetes. Therefore it is called a chronic disease. There is no single drug treatment instead management of the disease is the best way to maintain the quality of life.
