Expert Solution

Pyruvic acid is a weak acid which dissociates mildly in solution to give H+ ion.

On the other hand, HCl is a strong acid which disscoiates completely to form H- and Cl- ions in solution.

So the overall concentration of [H+] in solution = concentration of HCl started with

Sample 1 : [H+] concentration = sq.rt(2.8 x 10^-3 x molarity of pyruvic acid solution)

[pl. note feeding the molar concentration of pyruvic acid, we may find the [H+] concentration for sample 1)

Sample 2 : [H+] = 6.304 M x 0.2 ml/2.4 ml = 0.525 M

Sample 2 : [H+] = 6.304 M x 0.4 ml/2.4 ml = 1.050 M

Sample 3 : [H+] = 6.304 M x 0.6 ml/2.4 ml = 1.576 M

Sample 4 : [H+] = 6.304 M x 0.8 ml/2.4 ml = 2.101 M

Sample 5 : [H+] = 6.304 M x 1.0 ml/2.4 ml = 2.627 M
