1. Diagram the mechanism of the ATP synthase, place it in the mitochondrion.

2. Explain the chemiosomotic hypothesis; how it functions with its cellular location and the nature of the PMF

Solutions

Expert Solution

2) chemiosmotic mRNAs chemical and osmotic .

In mitochondria , the H+ is pumped out into intermembrane space during electron transport and for this, H+ is accumulated in the INTERMEMBRANE space.

Thus, H+ concentration becomes more in INTERMEMBRANE space than matrix and pH is also decreased in side INTERMEMBRANE space in co.oare with matrix

And then, this chemical which is for pH differences and osmotic which is for concentration gradient , is used by ATP synthase and H+ is transported down their concentration gradient and ADO na po is added to form ATP which is helped by the energy released by the downward TRANSPORT of H+
