Given historical and archaeological evidence, you know that settlers of Picon ancestry and settlers of Tauron ancestry colonized a new planet together a few hundred years ago. Picons and Taurons represent populations that are relatively divergent. A single nucleotide polymorphism is found at 60% frequency in the hybrid population, 45% frequency in the Picon population, and 70% frequency in the Taruon population. Estimate the proportion of Picon genetic ancestry in the hybrid population based on this one SNP. Show your work.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Frequency of SNP in hybrid population is 60% = 0.6

This variation came from Picons and Taurons, who contributed 1 allele each to a population with hybrid individuals. Sp proportion of contribution from Picons and Taurons is equal. But frequency of this SNP vary in two populations.

Frequency of SNP in Picon population is 45% and frequency of SNP in Taurons population is 70%.

Picon genetic ancestry in the hybrid population= 0.6 x 45% = 27%

Taurons genetic ancestry in the hybrid population= 0.6 x 70% = 42%

Estimated the proportion of Picon genetic ancestry with respect to Taurons in the hybrid population based on this one SNP is 27:42

The auditors know that it may not be practical to examine all available evidence on the basis of its volume and dispersion. In these cases, a sample is chosen to be measured against the audit requirements and to help establish the conclusion of the audit. Identify the sampling of the audit, the methods used, and describe the possibility of sampling risk.
