Solutions

Expert Solution

a) Calculate the mean, standard deviation, median, minimum, maximum values of gross weight of goods handled in selected ports by direction for the last 6 years. Interpret the results.

In the last 6 years, we see that,

In Greece, mean exports have been 173901 with a standard deivation of 10724. The median value is 171801 with max value of 190523 and min value of 160986.

In Spain mean exports have been 451176 with a standard deivation of 36956. The median value is 449152 with max value of 497812 and min value of 397462

In France mean exports have been 300457 with a standard deivation of 5651 The median value is 300522 with max value of 308629 and min value of 292160

In Croatia mean exports have been 19637 with a standard deivation of 1258 The median value is 19148 with max value of 21573 and min value of 18551

In Italy mean exports have been 466225 with a standard deivation of 20291 The median value is 460005 with max value of 501958 and min value of 443141

b) Draw the line graph and compare the gross weight of goods handled in selected ports (Interpret trends)

Highlight the values as shown, go to insert and click on line graph.

We see that Croatia has the lowest trade volume however Spain has been increasing it trade volume from 2014. Greece also has show a a slight increase in the trend.

c) Draw bar charts for the last 6 year mean of weight of goods handled in selected ports. Interpret the graph.

Highlight the mean values , go to insert and click on bar graph.

We see that in the last 6 six, Spain and Italy have almost the same volume. Croatia has the least volume.

d) Consider the 5 selected ports are your sample. Choose two years to calculate mean and standard deviation (Do not use excel function, calculte manually). Interpret your for the two years results.

Last two years are taken.

We see that Spain and Italy have almost the same mean but the standard deviation for Italy is much greater than that of Spain.

Croatia has the lowest mean but the standard deviation also the lowest.
