  1. For each of the variables below, describe their type (categorical – ordinal or nominal; numerical – discrete/continuous):      (2 points)
  1. College year

  1. Number of text messages sent

  1. Level of agreement (example: strongly agree, somewhat agree, et)

  1. Body Temperature in Fahrenheit

Solutions

Expert Solution

Firstly let us define all the terms

Categorical variables are one that have two or more values but are not continuous

Categorical ordinal variables are discrete variable which indicate the order or rank

Categorical nominal variables are discrete variable which do not indicate the order or rank

Numerical variables are that which is measurable, such as time, weight, height amount and so on

Numerical variables which are not having any values between two values are known as numerical discrete variables

Numerical variables which are having any values between two values are known as numerical continuous variables.

Based on these definitions we will give answers as below:

a. College year can be ordered hence it is categorical ordinal variable

b. Number of text messages sent are numerical discrete variable

c. Level of agreement are ranked hence it is categorical ordinal variable

d. Body Temperature in Fahrenheit, this will have values between two values, hence it is numerical continuous variable.
