  1. Which of the following observations would support part of the energy-diversity hypothesis?
    1. The total number of plants per site (not plants per species) is higher in sites with high actual evapotranspiration (AET).
    2. The total number of plants per site (not plants per species) is lower in sites with high actual evapotranspiration (AET).

Solutions

Expert Solution

Temperature is not energy; it is a measure of the tendency of a body to gain or lose heat. Two bodies are said to be at the same temperature if there is no net heat flow between them; this is the definition of temperature. Because evapotranspiration (AET) is a function of temprature, Evapotranspiration  in plants occurs due to temprature and it is a main driving force for photosynthesis. Hence, the ist possibiltiy is, any hypothesis that temperature controls diversity directly has the simple consequential prediction that diversity will be greater where temperatures are higher.

A second possibility is that diversity is controlled not by mean temperature, but by variability in temperature. Thus lots of work has been published on energy -diveristy hypothesis but not any single has absolute authentication. So on the basis of above discussion, we can conclude that the total number of plants per site is higher in site with high temprature means high actual evapotranspiration.

Which one of the following experimental results does not support the hypothesis that the ribosome is a ribozyme? Group of answer choices Peptidyl transferase activity is not inactivated by treating the ribosome with detergent. There are no proteins observed within 18 angstroms of the peptidyl transferase active site in the crystal structure. Peptidyl transferase activity can be inactivated by base changes in the rRNA. Ribosomes from thermophilic organisms are more stable than from E. coli. All of the answers support...
