What type of plasticity does the formation of ocular dominance column represents? Why?
Ocular dominance column - Known as stripes of neurons present in visual cortex present in mammals including humanns.Function by responding preferentially to input from one eye or the other.Column span multiple cortical layers which are laid out from a stripped pattern near the striate column,As they lie perpendicular to the oreintation columns.
TYpe of plasticity in Ocular dominance columns is cortical plasticity becasue of monocular deprivation leads the degradation of column with non deprived eye which controls the cortical cells. Also Ocular domininance column important to binocular vision.VArious factors in plasticity are Sensitive periods , models, modified hebbian learning and chemotaxis.
