The rate at which the cell synthesizes RNA in E. coli is greatest for ________ RNA while the most abundant type of RNA is _________.

Question options: a) messenger; ribosomal

b) ribosomal; messenger

c) transfer; ribosomal

d) transfer; transfer

e) None of the above

Thank you so much for your help!

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are three main types of RNA: 1. tRNA (transfer RNA)

2. mRNA,(messenger RNA)

3. rRNA (ribosomal RNA)

The most abundant form of RNA is rRNA or ribosomal RNA because it's responsible for coding and producing all of the proteins in cells. rRNA is found in the cytoplasm of cells and is associated with ribosomes.

mRNA tdelivered the coded information in the nucleus and rRNA translates it so that proteins can be produced and modified but in E Coli (a gram-negative, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria,  commonly found in the lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms) cell synthesizes t RNA in highest rate.

So Option c (transfer, ribosomal) is the correct option
