The difference between elastic , collagen and retinal fiber on the basis of
1. Composition
elastin fibres contain the protein elastin along with other protein and glycoproteins. Collagen fibres is made from fibrous protein subunits linked together to form a long and straight fiber. reticular fibers is also formed from the same protein subunits as collagen fibers but these fibers are narrow and form a branching network.
2. Properties
elastin fibres return to its original shape after being compressed or stretched. Collagen fibres are flexible ,have great tensile strength, resist stretching and give ligaments and tendons their characteristic resilience and strength. Reticular fibers are thinner than collagen and form a branching interwoven network.
3. Location
elastin fibers are prominent in elastic tissues found in skin and the elastic ligaments of vertebral column. collagen fibers are found in connective tissues. Reticular fibers are most abundant in reticular tissue of soft organs, such as liver and spleen.
4. Function
elastin fibres provide elasticity and resilience to the tissues. Collagen fibres hold connective tissues together ,even during the movement of the body. Reticular fibers anchor and provide structural support to parenchyma.
