Based on their observations in this scenario, and upon a careful review of the available literature, the student is to consider him or herself to be the Operations Manager of Kibby and Strand, the company in the scenario, responsible for managing all three departments: receiving, production, and shipping.

Conduct an analysis of the way Kibby and Strand manages receiving, production, and shipping and prepare a supply chain management plan to include a checklist for the receiving department to use when ordering, receiving, and staging raw materials.

2.The measurement criteria

Kibby and Strand , by calculating manufacturing cycle time can arrive on the production output .

A Cycle time can be defined as the total time taken since its start to end of the process.

A Manufacturing Cycle time can be defined as the total time taken by an raw product in the manufacturing system from the order release to the completion as a finished product . When the manufacturing cycle time reduces the cost ,increases flexibility thereby improving the responses to customers.

3. Staffing Plan :

Assuming Kibby and Strand are pioneers in manufacturing , given that they are on the verge of expanding their operation , there is a requirement for a shift manager at the manufacturing facility .

The Shift Manger role who will be reporting to the Production Manger is required to be a qualified technician who can manage production requirements ,from the Kickoff to the completion, assure that all products meet the desired values by following work order and procedure instructions.

In addition, The shift Manager is incharge of overseeing the cowokers effectively

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for installation and maintenance of machinery to assure adept operation.
  • Oversee the Co-Workers of the shift, assure all the tasks are finished accurately and adeptly, assisting with training and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Assure that the finished products are handled safely and packed with proper specifications.
  • Responsible for inspection of finished products and also assure they meet customer requirements and are free of defects.
  • Production process development/ refinement as needed
  • Practice safety procedures in accordance with training guideline
  • Manages work area to maintain equipment and assure work area is clean, orderly and safe.
  • Manages tool inventory

Skills:

  • 5+ years’ production experience
  • 3+ years’ managerial or supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of database and productivity software required
  • Six Sigma or LEAN certification preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
