Create a detailed response to this paragraph:
What is formed when one or more electrons are transferred from one atom to another? Covalent bonds for when electrons are shared between atoms. Metals and non metals atoms forms to make ionic bonds. Ionic compounds are also compounds of cations and anions. Do you know the five properties of an ionic compound? The octet rule are atoms in most compounds that tend to achieve the electron configuration of a noble gas.
If electrons are transferred from one atom to another ions will form.
Ex: Zn + Cu+2 = Zn+2 + Cu , here 2 electrons were transfered from Zn to Cu+2 .
Covalent bonds are formed by mutual sharing of bond pair of electrons. Ex: H2 - H x x H (x means elctron).
Ionic compounds are build up with ions (cation & anion)
Generally metals forms cations by loosing electrons and non metals forms anions by gaining electrons.
Ex: Na = Na+ + e- and Cl + e- = Cl-
Na+ + Cl- = NaCl
Properties of ionic compounds are 1. Hard and have brittle nature 2. High Melting point and boiling point 3. Tendency to form crystals 4. High enthalpy of fusion and vaporization 5. Good conductors of electricity when dissolved in water
Most of the atoms in a molecule or compound are try to get octet configuration (noble gas configuration)by gaining or loosing electrons to get stability
