what are some of the methods used for the location of adsorption bands when colorless compounds are subjected to chromatographic adsorption
Chromatography is a type of seperation technique. In this method, ther are a sationary phase and a mobile phase. the mobile phase runs through the sationary phase, based on the interaction between the mobile phase and the statinory phase, the substances, comes out. This process is called elution.
There are different types of chormatogrphic techniques. TLC or thin layer chromatogrphy is one aoung them. Here the stationary phase is coated in a thin glass plate.Mobile phase travels upward through the stationary phase through capillary action. During this procedure, seperation of analytes can occur.
Some times when using colorless substances, we cannot see clearly. During this time we uses another techniques such as fluorescence, radiactivity or a specific chemical substance like ninhydrin can be used to produce colored reactive product so as to identify the positions in the chromatogram. This can be observed under UV light or visible light.
