Compare and contrast the steps of glycolysis and the Calvin cycle that share the same intermediates. Please be detail.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer =

Contrast between glycolysis and Calvin cycle.

calvin cycle Glycolysis
1.Calvin cycle is part of the light -independent reactions of photosynthesis. 1.The glycolysis is the catabolic pathway of glucose by which glucose is converted into the pyruvate.
2.calvin cycle uses NADPH and ATP . 2.Glycolysis generates 2 molecules of ATP and NADH.
3. The final product is Glucose it means that it generates glucose. 3.Glycolysis oxidises glucose.
4.Occurs in absence of oxygen 4.Occurs in absence or presence of oxygen.

Comparison between glycolysis and Calvin cycle as follows:

Both cycle involves GLucose , calvin produces glucose and glycolysis uses glucose.

Both have a common intermediate 3- PGA that is 3- phosphoglycerate.
