1. Abstract: Based on its phylogenetic relationships and genomic structure COVID-19 belongs to genera betacoronavirus. Betacoronaviruses (SARS- CoV-2, SARS CoV and MERS CoV) have differences in genomic and phenotypic structure that can influence their pathogenesis.
COVID-19 is containing single-stranded RNA associated with a nucleoprotein within the capsid.
2. Introduction: Coronaviruses are members of the family coronoviridie. The emergence of novel corona virus with an outbreak of unusual viral pneumonia in Wuhan, China.
Sequences of COVID-19 shows close similarity to that of severe - acute related syndrome related- Coronavirus( SARSr-CoV) and the virus uses ACE2 as the entry receptor like SARS - CoV.
3. Structure: COVID-19 is a spherical or pleomorphic enveloped particles containing single-stranded RNA (positive sense) associated with the nucleoprotein within a capsid. The envelopes bears club - shaped glycoprotein projections. Some coronaviruses also contain hem agglutinin-estarase protein.
4. Function: Several abnormalities have been observed including cellular immune deficiency, coagulation activation, myocardial injury, hepatic and kidney injury, and secondary bacterial infections. In majority of the severe cases, sustained inflammation and lymphopenia have been seen.
5. Treatment: Vaccines are based on full-length S protein, viral vector, DNA, recombinant S protein and recombinant RBD protein. Antiviral therapies based on S protein include RBD -ACE2 blockers, S cleavage inhibitors, protease inhibitors, neutralising antibodies and small interfering RNAs(siRNA)
